We've all heard of pop up restaurants being done by famous chefs and haute design food encounters created by the likes of David Rockwell (Nobu around the world). Foodies love it when the pairing of food and design come together. How about when the design is digital, produced by projection, allows for games and interactive location based fact finding right there at table top and advertisers can buy your table for you and even top themselves up on the menu list if they pay enough.
That is what Inamo and their restaurant chain offers.
I had a talk with Noel Hunwick, one of the co-founders of Inamo, at CES. With simple projection and RF interactivity, Noel and his partner, Danny Potter, founded Inamo 6 years ago based on the premise that they were at a bar, wanted to pay and could not get a waiter to pay attention and take their money. Looking for an operations solution, they have created way to invite consumer, food, service and advertising to sit together at one table in a seamless manner. While the table top here is busy since they are trying to show you all the options, it can be configured to have the look and feel you want. The API is open so you can have your own developers also produce interactive activities - like games (dare I say, advergames) to play while waiting for the food.
I like the concept and I like the simplicity of application. Now what are people saying? Those of you in the restaurant business knows how food rules over decor in the long run. Zagat's commentary is mixed with a general on the food. Top Table's Inamo reviews are far superior with people liking the food as well. So when you visit London or The Netherlands, look up Inamo and tell me what you think of the experience and sometimes prolific advertising with your food is too much of a good thing.
